TAT is a creative dance perfomance in collaboration with locking dancer Yunxiao Zhao and motion graphic artist Lisen Ye(Lynn). With the dancer secretly appearing on/off the stage and the background video trying to fake the dancer, The piece aims to trick the audiences by the visual illusion that both the real dancer and the “fake dancer” create together.
I made the music and the storyboard for the work. Here is the layout video with which I provided Lynn:
I firstly communicated with the dancer about the concept of the performance. We roughly decided the structure and the style of his movement. Then the layout video which made in Flash, was finished along with the choreography. The red man in the video indicates the real dancer on the stage, while the blue man indicates the “fake dancer.”
After finishing the storyboard, we recorded the dance in a green screen room and took part of the dance as the blue man’s part. We tried many configurations to get the final version of the background video, which we thought best suited the performance.
